In Sestriere, where the fourth Winter Universiade was held in 1966, there will be an absolute premiere. Ski mountaineering competitions will be held for the first time as part of the FISU World University Games, thanks to FISU’s recognition as the 78th sport in 2023.
Ski mountaineering involves athletes racing uphill and skiing downhill, using mountaineering skills to compete on snowy and mountainous terrain and can be traced back to the prehistoric need to move efficiently across hilly and mountainous winter landscapes.
The Torino 2025 FISU Games will host the Sprint and Vertical competitions and a mixed relay. Student-athletes from 14 countries will compete in Sestriere for the first, historic medals.
