From 13 to 23 January 2025, Torino and its mountains will host over 2,000 athletes for the XXXII FISU World University Winter Games. The event, born under the Mole in 1959 as the Universiade, returns to the city that marked its debut, with an opening ceremony at the Inalpi Arena and competitions in six locations that symbolise Alpine sport and culture (Torino, Bardonecchia, Pragelato, Torre Pellice, Pinerolo and Sestriere).
Capturing the event through images will be a team of 10 photographers, entirely “branded” Nikon, the Official Sponsor of the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games.
The team of imaging professionals, led by experienced photographer Diego Barbieri — an expert in sports, events, commercial photography, portraits, weddings, and branding for athletes, teams, and sports clubs — will document every competition and training session with quality and precision. Their Nikon cameras will narrate not only athletic performances but also the emotions that characterize each sport.
Alongside the team of 10 Nikon photographers, there will be a substantial group of young photographers and videographers from the Nikon Creators initiative. This group, composed of emerging talents in photography and video, brings their flair and creativity to appeal to the 3.0 generation, contributing to the dissemination of high-quality content on social networks using Nikon equipment. The Nikon Creators will have the task of narrating the ‘behind the scenes’ and will cover with their visual narratives every detail of this 10-day event in the name of international university winter sport, inclusion and culture.
Valentino Bertolini, Marketing & Communication Director of Nital, enthusiastically stated:
“The Torino 2025 Universiade represents an extraordinary event that celebrates values of fairness, healthy competition, and team spirit. Furthermore, as it takes place on the Piedmontese snow, it is an honour to be the Technical Sponsor of this event. A team of 10 Nikon photographers will follow the event, capturing every nuance with our cameras to convey the excitement of each competition and immortalize the talent and determination of the athletes. In a context that promotes inclusion, fraternity, and respect, we want to stand by young athletes from around the world and help make this event unforgettable for everyone, thanks to the communicative power of images.”
Nikon will also be present in the Torino competition venues (Palavela and PalaTazzoli) with two Photo Booths that will allow people to take and share fun and spontaneous photographs in a winter sports-themed setting. The well-known photographic brand will also be present in the sponsor village that will be set up in the central Piazza Castello in Torino. Here too, an engaging ‘photographic’ activity open to all will be proposed.
“We are very pleased with this partnership,” commented Alessandro Ciro Sciretti, President of the Games Organizing Committee, “because the idea of capturing the beauty and emotions of the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games, where the main protagonists are young athletes from all over the world competing in the enchanting setting of Torino and its snow-capped mountains, is truly the best way to pay tribute to our region and create an album of indelible memories of this important event.”
