Bardonecchia is ready to host alpine skiing, snowboard and freestyle at the World University Games in the winter of 2025

Another step towards Torino 2025. The discovery of the Piedmontese territory continues as the protagonist of the XXXII World University Games Winter. After the appointment of last March 9 with the mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo and that of March 21 in Pragelato with the equivalent Giorgio Merlo, this morning a delegation of the Organizing Committee of Torino 2025 went to visit Bardonecchia, where it is was welcomed by the mayor Chiara Rossetti.

The municipality of Valsusa, formerly the scene of various snow competitions in the previous Universiade organized in the Piedmontese mountains by Cus Torino on a mandate from the FISU in 2007, has also been a protagonist in recent days, hosting the speed races of the Italian Fisi Alpine Ski Championships where, among others, the stars Dominik Paris and Nadia Delago, were crowned champions of downhill skiing.

In 2025, these slopes will host the competitions of alpine skiing, snowboard and freestyle. Sport, tourism and culture are the cornerstones of Bardonecchia, as Chiara Rossetti underlines at the end of the meeting: «It was a very fruitful day and we have long been waiting for the departure of this collaboration, made official by today’s visit. We are ready to do great things, but always through small steps, to get ready for 2025. We are enthusiastic and we hope to involve all of Bardonecchia in this very important event, from all points of view, both sporting and tourism”.

Looking back, she added: «The 2007 precedent is an excellent starting point, which we want to strengthen with new global interests, such as the eco-sustainability of major events. We will all work together in this direction, with the aim of leaving an important legacy in the area, connoting Bardonecchia as the city of the Universiade, to welcome both today’s and tomorrow’s student athletes”.

This is the comment by Riccardo D’Elicio (vicar vice president of WUG Torino 2025 and president of Cus Torino): «It was a very interesting meeting, in a town with a very strong university vocation and always attentive to our university sports world thanks to the dedicated attention to our students with ad hoc discounts from Colomion Spa. Bardonecchia is very sensitive to the Turin 2025 project with the intention of enhancing winter tourism, but also summer tourism. We want to relaunch Bardonecchia as a university reference and, together with Cusi, we intend to return here for the Italian University Alpine Ski Championships as in the recent past. We like to dream and who knows it might not be possible to study a permanent campus with the FISU brand to host university students from all over the world and employees of universities in our mountains».

The tour will continue next week touching Pinerolo and Torre Pellice, or the other municipalities that will host the Torino 2025 World University Games Winter, in view of the visit of the official Fisu delegation, scheduled for this spring in May.
