Only 150 more days to go before the arrival of the joyful river of about 70 flags that will colour Torino and the Olympic Valleys on the occasion of the Torino2025 FISU World University Games Winter – better known as Universiade – scheduled from 13 to 23 January 2025 in Torino, Bardonecchia, Pragelato, Pinerolo, Torre Pellice and Sestriere.
Representatives of delegations from all over the world (more than 50 countries are involved) will arrive in the city in exactly 30 days, from 16 to 20 September, on the occasion of the lighting of the Torch of Knowledge and the start of the Torch Tour of the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games Winter – which coincides with the International Day of University Sport – to be held on 20 September at the Rector’s Office of the University of Torino.
These days the competition sites are undergoing a major makeover to host the athletes, which will leave a significant legacy for the citizens and sports associations of the Metropolitan City area.
As part of the run-up to the Universiade, the Palavela, temple of Italian ice and venue of excellence of the 2006 Olympics, remained open throughout the summer on the initiative of the Organising Committee of the XXXII Winter University Games, hosting the stage of the Italian Junior National Figure Skating Team, the training sessions of the regional short track and figure skating teams, the first Floor Curling tournament organised by Fisg Piemonte, and allowing thousands of children from Piemonte to experience the thrill of ice skating and snow disciplines in a summer version at the Fisulandia park.
During these days the reigning European figure skating champions Charlène Guignard and Marco Fabbri, recent medallists at the World Championships in Montreal 2024 (as well as winners of the 2015 Universiade) will take to the rink to train for the new competitive season, while between November and December there will be Short Track (again at the Palavela), Biathlon (in Pragelato) and Hockey (in Torre Pellice, Pala Tazzoli in Torino and Pinerolo) test events.
‘Colours, emotions, commitment and passion for sport and education: a celebration of the whole City and Piemonte that will invade the area, making us relive, for the next 150 days, the emotions already savoured in 2006,’ declares the President of the Organising Committee Alessandro Ciro Sciretti. ‘Furthermore, in a month’s time there will be the Call to Action Party dedicated to the Volunteers at the Pala Gianni Asti, fundamental players in a great event such as the Universiade, where generations of parents and children, from 2006 to 2025, will work together for the first time, united by the same absolute love for sport.’
