Official Jingle and Main Sponsors UniCredit and UniCredit Allianz Assicurazioni Announced
The Flame Relay, the tour that the Flame of Knowledge contained in the ‘Guarini’ Torch, created to light the XXXII Torino 2025 World University Winter Games, will undertake, was presented today at a press conference held in the Sala Trasparenza of the Grattacielo Piemonte. From Brussels to Rabat in Morocco, passing through Rome, New York, Lausanne, Milan, Trento, Caivano and Salerno: in September and October the torch will travel around the world, returning to Piemonte in November, with 8 regional stops at the universities and campuses, i.e. Biella, Vercelli, Novara, Alessandria, Asti, Pollenzo, Mondovì and Cuneo, accompanied by school students thanks to the support of the Regional School Office and the provincial offices involved in the tour together with the local administrations. Lastly, in December, the torch will arrive in the municipalities hosting the Games with the involvement of the competition venues: Pinerolo, Torre Pellice, Pragelato, Sestriere and Bardonecchia, returning to Torino on 13 January 2025 on the occasion of the Inauguration Ceremony that will kick off the XXXII FISU World University Games Winter. The path of the torch will start from the historical seat of the CUS Torino in Via Braccini 1 and will wind along a city route that will touch the main parks of the City, the competition venues (Pala Tazzoli and Palavela) on a mixed course along the cycle paths in the area.
Welcoming the event on behalf of President Cirio was the Director of the Sport Area of the Piemonte Region Paola Casagrande, who greeted the speakers – Councillor for Sport and Major Events of the City of Torino Domenico Carretta, Vice-President of the Metropolitan City Jacopo Suppo, President of CONI Piemonte Stefano Mossino, the representatives of FederCusi Luigi Mazzone (Federal Councillor) and Alice Cometti (President of Cus Piemonte Orientale), Rector of the University of Torino Stefano Geuna, Pro-rector of the Politecnico di Torino Elena Maria Baralis, Rector of the University of Piemonte Orientale Gian Carlo Avanzi and President of the Organising Committee of the Torino 2025 Games Alessandro Ciro Sciretti – as well as the other guests in the room.
The celebrations for the FISU World University Games Winter Torch Relay will kick off on 20 September, on International University Sport Day, from the Rector’s Office of the University of Torino, home of the Brazier of the Universiade, the event that was born in Piemonte’s capital city in 1959 under the name Universiade, thanks to the visionary intuition of the then president of CUS Torino Primo Nebiolo. In fact, 2018 has sanctioned a structured protocol between FISU, CUS Torino and UniTo that has included Torino as the host city of the Flame of Knowledge, and at all editions of the Universiade, the organising countries travel to Torino to kick off their Games by lighting the brazier. This will therefore be a special edition of the journey of the Flame of Knowledge: the Torch of the Games will leave from Torino, present itself to Europe and the world – retracing the history of the Universiade – and return to Piemonte and Torino again, where students from the various provinces of the Region will be ready to welcome it.
‘The launch of the torch relay is always a truly exciting moment,’ said FISU President Leonz Eder, ’And this time it is even more so, because the Torch will travel around Europe, the world and the Piemonte region, warming many hearts along the way, before returning to where it is always lit, in this city so special to FISU, Torino.’
Conceived under the banner of sustainability, the Flame Relay of the FISU World University Games in Torino 2025 will take place in three stages – international, national and Piemonte tour – with 20 torchbearers taking turns along the route of each stage of the Torch Tour. Representatives of the sporting world FederCUSI, CONI and CIP, students and university students, institutions, members of civil society and citizens will be involved, who will be able to apply through the event website to carry the ‘Guarini’ along its path towards the Games.
Among the torch-bearers who will be involved in the tour, Elisa Fava, the snowboarder from Almese who won the Gold Medal in the Giant Parallel at the World University Games in Lake Placid, was present at the press conference. At the end of the Tour presentation, she carried the Torch into the Sala Trasparenza. Fava is an outstanding student-athlete from the FederCUSI world, present at the meeting through the two representatives Alice Cometti and Luigi Mazzone.
The entrance of the Torch carried by Elisa Fava was accompanied by the background music of the winning jingle of the Call for Artists created by the Open Stage community together with the Organising Committee to create the official song of the event, which will be used at the opening of all the events (sporting and otherwise) at the various competition venues and to accompany the Tour of the Torch.
Presenting the jingle were Paolo Di Gioia, of the band Eugenio in Via Di Gioia, and Stefano Frosi of Open Stage, who made up the technical committee set up to evaluate and select the competing songs.
The piece is entitled ‘This Moment’ and was made by the creative team Hesanobody, MadTing & DMMP, aka Gaetano Dino Chirico, Giulio Carter, Davide Mettifogo and Marco Pezzali.
Lastly, the meeting at the Grattacielo was also an opportunity for another great achievement of the Torino 2025 Games, the presentation of the Games’ Main Sponsors, namely UniCredit and UniCredit Allianz Assicurazioni, who were given the first official race bibs for the Alpine Skiing sport, which will be used in the Alpine Combined, Super G and Slalom disciplines, and this year, for the first time in the history of the Fisu Games Winter, will also be present in the Paralympic specialities.
In fact, this will be the first, historic barrier-free edition because, in Alpine and Cross-Country Skiing, para-athletes from the Visually Impaired, Standing and Sitting categories will also compete.
‘With the start of the Flame Relay – said the President of the Organising Committee of the Torino 2025 Games, Alessandro Ciro Sciretti – the Torino 2025 FISU Games Winter are now in full swing: the university system and the territory partners are the main players who, from 20 September onwards, will give life to a programme of activities aimed at enhancing the excellence of our Piemonte, at promoting not only the university sports system but also at exalting the excellence of the regional entrepreneurial fabric that works with that system on a daily basis, in very close contact. By integrating sport and study with work and the socio-economic growth of Piemonte, the Flame of Knowledge Tour, and more generally the Torino 2025 Games, aim to leave a concrete legacy even after 23 January, a legacy that has in the involvement of students the key element of its realisation. An involvement that also concerns the young student athletes arriving in Piemonte from all over the world, who, through sport, will have the opportunity to learn more about the excellence of Piemonte’s academic system. Because Piemonte really is the LAND OF SPORTS!’.
