Departed from Torino Airport, the Official Airport of the Torino 2025 Games, the “Guarini” torch arrived in Rabat, Morocco, for the Executive Committee Meeting of the International University Sports Federation, following its first stop at the European Parliament in Brussels.
In Rabat, the torch was welcomed by members of the FISU Elective Assembly from all over the world and met the representatives from Rhine Ruhr, Organizing Committee of the upcoming FISU Summer Games in July 2025.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the World University Games Flame Relay protocol unfolds in three stages—international, national, and Piedmontese—featuring stops at university campuses and culturally and touristically significant locations.
The international phase of the relay, which began on September 23 in Brussels and is in Rabat today, will return to Italy with the handover from FISU to FederCUSI in Rome, where a virtual flash mob is planned. This event will feature 20 students/athletes and ex-students as torchbearers from across the country, representing the university sports movement, in the presence of Italy’s top sports authorities.
From Rome, the tour will travel to New York on October 14, participating alongside the Italian Government and the Piemonte Region in the Columbus Day Parade. The torch will then continue its institutional journey, with a stop in Lausanne scheduled for October 22 at the University and the FISU Headquarters.
The tour will return to Italy with stops in Trento on October 29, Milan on November 4, and in Caivano and Salerno on November 8 and 9 (the latter being the organizer of the 2026 European University Games). Throughout November, it will reach the main campuses of Piedmontese universities and, in December, arrive in the host municipalities of the Games.
Finally, the torch will make its way back to Torino on January 13, 2025, for the Opening Ceremony that will officially launch the XXXII FISU World University Games Winter.
