At the Palavela in Turin the Short Track sprinters took to the ice for the two-day test event of the Italian Short Track Speed Skating Cup
Turin, 27 October – The ice rink at Turin’s Palavela was tested for the Short Track discipline in the first of four test events scheduled for the Turin 2025 FISU World University Winter Games.
On Saturday 26 October and Sunday 27 October, the first Short Track test – one of the nine disciplines of the Games – was held, in which the Junior D C B A and Senior category teams took to the track, with the participation of 122 athletes from all over Italy competing over the distances of 500, 1000 and 1500 metres.
Alongside them, the Torino 2025 team was busy simulating all the dynamics and protocol involved in the smooth running of the competition, including the prize-giving ceremonies and the running-in of the crucial team of volunteers.
‘The excitement of having finally breathed in the atmosphere of the great sporting event that is coming up, albeit still in a dress rehearsal version, is indescribable,’ commented the President of the Games Organising Committee Alessandro Ciro Sciretti. ’This Palavela is undoubtedly a facility of absolute excellence, but the real difference was made by our Torino2025 team, which showed great professionalism and team spirit. I am certain that, as we get closer to Games Time, this event will be more and more beautiful and engaging for all the people who will take part in it: the athletes and coaches, of course, but also and above all the simple spectators who love sport.
Angela Barbera, President of the Velocisti Ghiaccio Torino, commented: ‘I am proud of the success of the first test of the Coppa Italia, which took place this weekend at the Palavela in Turin. This competition, supported by the FISG and enriched by the collaboration with the FISU, represented not only an important sporting moment, but also a fundamental test event for the next Universiade. Returning to an evocative facility such as the Palavela, already the protagonist of the 2006 Olympics, added a unique charm to this competition. It was a pleasure to collaborate with the FISU, under the leadership of President Alessandro Ciro Sciretti and his team, who, with dedication, helped create a successful event. Their passion, together with the invaluable support of the FISG, made it possible to raise the importance of this competition, giving added value to the competition.’
The event was organised by the Turin 2025 Organising Committee in cooperation with Asd Velocisti Ghiaccio and with the support of FISG, the Italian Ice Sports Federation – Federazione Italiana Sport del Ghiaccio.
