At Colonnetti Park, 120 students from five classes of the Cairoli Comprehensive School involved in planting their trees and contributing to the creation of the BOSCO DIFFUSO, a forest network that is being created thanks to the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games.
Torino, October 30 – As part of the BoscoTo25 project, within the broader programme dedicated to schools and managed by the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games Organizing Committee, 260 trees were planted this afternoon in an area of the Colonnetti Park in front of the CUS in Via Panetti. The planting, carried out by about 120 children under the guidance of the City of Torino’s Public Green and Educational Policy Departments, is taking place in a park of special arboreal interest.
Present at the meeting were Education Councillor Carlotta Salerno, Public Green Councillor Francesco Tresso, District Two President Luca Rolandi, and Organizing Committee President Alessandro Ciro Sciretti. However, the real protagonists of this activity were the students from five classes of the Cairoli Comprehensive School, each of whom named their own tree and received a Games T-shirt.
This is the last event of the project called BoscoTo25, which aims to create a real Bosco Diffuso (widespread forest) among the municipalities hosting the competition, with the focus on environmental sustainability and the protection of green areas in the area. The fundamental concept that we wanted to explore with the students is that of biodiversity, of which we are all a part, with the creation of new green areas for relaxation, socialisation and recreational-sports activities through the planting of multiple plants within areas specifically sought out by the municipalities involved. The students became the real protagonists of the project, both by participating in workshops on nature – organised by the Committee in collaboration with the Carabinieri specialised in Forestry, the Piedmont Region and the municipalities involved – and by directly planting the seedlings with the help of qualified personnel, customising them with labels.
“Through the enthusiasm and commitment of these young students, and thanks to the Organising Committee of the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games, today we are taking an important step to make one of Torino’s most beautiful and tree-rich parks even greener,’ commented Councillors Salerno and Tresso. ’Bosco To25 is not just a project that gives new trees to the city, it is a way to raise awareness among schools on the importance of biodiversity and care for the territory.“
“Leaving a sign of value, a shared and ongoing legacy, that brings wellbeing to the whole community,’ said President Sciretti, ’This is the profound meaning that the Organising Committee of the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games gives to the Schools Project in which the BoscoTo2025 programme is part, an activity that involved hundreds of children from all the municipalities hosting the Games, making them understand, both through theoretical workshops on nature and biodiversity and, above all, through the concrete activity of planting trees, the importance of environmental sustainability and the protection of the green areas of the territory. In particular, for this beautiful day at Colonnetti Park, which is both a celebration and an open-air ‘didactic’, I would like to thank the City of Torino, Councillors Carlotta Salerno and Francesco Tresso.”
