The official lighting ceremony of the Torch of the 32nd edition of the Winter Universiade took place today. In the morning, the agreement for the TORINO 2025 FISU WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES WINTER was signed on the tip of the Mole Antonelliana, a symbolic monument of the city of Turin. In the evening, at the end of World University Sport Day, the Turin 2025 edition will be promoted with the lighting of the Mole.
The highest institutional and academic authorities of the Piedmontese capital, the delegation of Lucerne 2021, the FISU, the Organizing Committee of the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games Winter attended the event, including: Leonz Eder (FISU President acting until December 17, 2022), Chiara Appendino (Mayor of the City of Turin), Alessandro Ciro Sciretti (President of the Organizing Committee and President of EDISU Piedmont), Fabrizio Ricca (Councilor for Sport of the Piedmont Region), Antonio Dima (President of CUSI, Italian University Sports Center), Lorenzo Lentini (FISU Executive Committee), Riccardo D’Elicio (President of the Turin University Sports Center).
It was therefore the turn of institutional interventions. At the end of the speeches, FISU President Leonz Eder lit the Torch of Knowledge of the Torino 1959 Universiade and with it the brazier. The first torchbearer was Anna Arnaudo, university athlete of CUS Torino, silver medalist at the Under 23 European Championships in athletics on 10,000 meters and Italian Absolute Champion on 5,000 meters.
The passage of the Torch of Knowledge touched the main representative places of the University City. It started from the Rectorate of the University of Turin (via Verdi 8), passing through Piazza Castello, Piazza Carignano, in the suggestive “Gallery of the Kings” of the Egyptian Museum; the tour continued returning to piazza Castello, retracing via Po. Arriving in piazza Vittorio the torch descended to the Murazzi, continuing in the Valentino park. The final destination was the Valentino Castle which saw the Rector of the Polytechnic of Turin Guido Saracco and the President of FISU Leonz Eder as special torchbearers.
