Turin presented itself to the world.
From 13 to 23 January 2025, the city will be the scene of the World University Games Winter, the event that was created in 1959 by Primo Nebiolo with the name of Universiade. Today, the Organizing Committee has exposed the project of the Games to be held in Piedmont region and his beautiful mountains between 1129 days, involving the town of Bardonecchia, Pinerolo, Pragelato and Torre Pellice.
The official presentation should have been held in Lucerne on the eve of the FISU Winter Universiade scheduled from 11 to 21 December, but the pandemic led to the cancellation of the event and so today the whole procedure took place virtually, together with those of the others host cities of the next summer and winter editions: Chengdu 2021 (postponed to next summer), Lake Placid 2023 (winter), Ekaterinburg 2023 (summer), Rhine-Ruhr 2025 (summer).
Connected from the headquarters of the Organizing Committee in via Braccini were the president of Cus Torino Riccardo D’Elicio, the president of the Organizing Committee of Turin 2025 Alessandro Sciretti, the mayors of the four municipalities involved in the event (Bardonecchia, Pragelato, Pinerolo, Torre Pellice), in addition to the Councilor for Sport of the Piedmont Region Fabrizio Ricca, who sent a video message.
The new director general of the Committee Andrea Ippolito moderated the presentation and, after a message of closeness to the city of Lucerne for the cancellation of the winter Universiade by D’Elicio and an emotional launch video for the event to be held in winter of 2025, presented the guests and then updated the Fisu on the state of the work of the Organizing Committee, which in recent weeks launched the official website (www.wugtorino2025.com), published the call for the creation of the official logo.
At the end of the presentation, FISU president Leonz Eder showed all his appreciation for the presentation, stating: «We are looking forward to the winter of 2025 and the university sports world cannot imagine its future without Turin. On January 17th we will be with you to light the Torch of Knowledge for the Chengdu Summer Games (postponed to next summer) and there will be a delegation from Lake Placid 2023 for the passage of the flag with Lucerne which could not take place in Switzerland».
