TORINO 2025 presents the BRAINstorm project at the International Book Fair in Torino

The best Italian minds are ready to shine. On 18 May, on the occasion of the opening of the International Book Fair in Torino, where the Torino 2025 FISU Games will have a stand, the national call of the academic challenge BRAINstorm will be launched by the Organising Committee of the World University Winter Games together with the four universities of Piemonte: Università di Torino, Politecnico di Torino, Università di Scienze Gastronomiche di Pollenzo e Università del Piemonte Orientale.

#To25 BRAINstorm is the first worldwide competition between the best talents of Italian and international universities: a BRAINstorm to achieve the millennium goals. A contest that will accompany us as we approach the sports event, culminating on the very dates (13-23 January 2025) when the best student athletes will compete for medals on the snow and ice of Piemonte in 5 different municipalities: Torino, Bardonecchia, Pragelato, Pinerolo e Torre Pellice

The Universiade was born in Torino in 1959 thanks to former CUS Torino president Primo Nebiolo and here is where the Flame of Knowledge is permanently guarded, just as Olympia guards the Olympic fire. Once again, Torino wants to distinguish itself with another innovation, launching the first competition in history for the brand-new “athletes of the mind”, which will involve a thousand young people from all over the world, ready to compete in the nine academic disciplines proposed by the four universities of Piemonte.

“The Torino 2025 project is to realise an inclusive event, which wants to go far beyond the sporting part. A great event like the Universiade must live on many aspects, promote Regione Piemonte and its university system, which, when it networks, goes even stronger – said the President of the Torino 2025 OC, Alessandro Ciro Sciretti -. The goal of the World University Winter Games is for the entire system to come out stronger than it was before, and the launch of the Italian challenge is just the first step in this project, which we expect to be welcomed by all the universities of the world, so that the best minds can work on a better future and challenge each other in the first edition of BRAINstorm in January 2025”.

From Thursday 18 May, on our official website, you will be able to find all the information you need to become a knowledge athlete: challenge, announcement and rules. But that’s not all: by logging onto the portal, you will be able to discover the titles of the 9 challenges, which have a single objective, that of providing an answer to the great challenges of tomorrow. All students enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree course are called upon to participate, by virtue of the social purpose of the project, as well as the attractive prize money up for grabs.

For further information on this project, it will be possible to visit the Torino 2025 stand (Hall 2 – M118) at Lingotto Fiere and take part in the official presentation of the 9 challenges, which will take place on 22 May at 4.30 p.m. in the Sala Bronzo in Hall 2.

The meeting will be attended by Alessandro Ciro Sciretti (President of the Torino 2025 Games), Riccardo D’Elicio (Deputy Vicepresident of the Torino 2025 FISU Games and councillor in charge of the technical-sports area), Alberto Rainoldi (Vice-Chancellor of the Università di Torino), Donatella D’Amico (General Manager Edisu Piemonte), Enrico Macii (lecturer at the Politecnico of Torino), Paolo Pomati (Head of the Rector’s Staff and Communication at the Università del Piemonte Orientale), Lorenzo Bairati (lecturer at the Università di Scienze Gastronomiche di Pollenzo).

Special guests will be the two student-athletes both triumphant in their careers at the Universiade: alpine skier Giulio Bosca (gold in giant slalom at Almaty 2017, silver in super combined at Granada 2015 and silver in giant slalom at Trentino 2013) and snowboarder Elisa Fava (gold in parallel giant slalom at Lake Placid 2023). The meeting will be moderated by Paolo Verri (Special Projects manager of the Torino 2025 Games).
