Pinerolo: Land of Art, Culture, and Sports
Pinerolo is located at the heart of the “Pinerolese” region, stretching from the Torino metropolitan area to the French border. This diverse territory, rich in plural identities, offers visitors a varied and intriguing cultural and environmental heritage. Exploring the city means uncovering its medieval core, its rich Savoy history, the influence of three French dominations, and the founding of the Cavalry School. Pinerolo is a city steeped in history and charm, with its medieval streets, excellent pastry shops, and bustling markets. Nestled at the foot of the mountains and a short distance from the plains, it serves as a gateway to some of Piedmont’s most scenic cycling routes, both in the plains and the mountains. Pinerolo is also a hub of craftsmanship, art, and sports in all their forms.
In fact, the city was the Olympic venue for all curling competitions during the Torino 2006 Winter Olympic Games and served as the first Olympic outpost in Val Chisone, a valley also home to the former competition venues of Pragelato and Sestriere. Among the various sports, Pinerolo boasts a strong tradition in curling, volleyball—recently promoted to Serie A1—and soccer. Moreover, it is a city of great cycling, having hosted stages of the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France multiple times. Most recently, it hosted the Touch Run of the XXXVII Special Olympics National Summer Games and the Giro d’Italia Under-23.
