The history of curling at the Universiade is particularly linked to Italy: first included in the programme as an optional sport at the 21st Winter Universiade in Tarvisio in 2003, it became a compulsory sport only four years later, in Torino in 2007.
Since then, curling has been an integral part of the FISU Games, and participation in this discipline is always very high. Among the big names is that of Oskar Eriksson, who won gold with Norway at the 2013 Universiade in Trentino and went on to win four Olympic medals between 2014 and 2022, including gold in Beijing.
In Torino 2025, student-athletes from Canada, China, Great Britain, Italy, Korea, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, Ukraine and the United States will compete in the men’s competition. Athletes from Canada, China, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Korea, Norway, Poland, Sweden and the USA will compete in the women’s competition.
