Cuneo, November 28 – The tour of the Torch of the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games continued this week, reaching Cuneo Province for its final three stops in the Piemonte tour: Mondovì, Cuneo, and Pollenzo.
After the stop in Mondovì on November 26, the Torch lit up Cuneo, a city known for its agrifood and mechatronics industries, on November 28. The route began at the School of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine of the University of Turin in Piazza Torino and concluded at the SEAT headquarters of the university (via Ferraris di Celle 2).
The event was attended by Andrea Silvestri, Director General of the University of Turin; Patrizia Manassero, Mayor of Cuneo; Cristina Clerico, Councillor for Culture, Universities, Equality, Anti-Discrimination Policies, and Youth Policies; Sara Tomatis, Councillor for Events and Tourism; Marco Gallo, Regional Councillor for Mountain Development and Snow Systems; and Carmine Rocco Grassi, Chief of Police.
“The Torch’s stop in Cuneo today reminds us that we are quickly approaching the Torino 2025 Universiade,” commented Councillor Marco Gallo. “This event will showcase Torino and some of the Alpine locations that hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics. These ten days of competitions will serve as a fantastic opportunity to promote Piemonte internationally, with 3,000 athletes from around the world in attendance. They will also reaffirm our region as a land of major sporting events: after the Giro d’Italia, the Tour de France, and the ATP tennis finals, the Universiade once again highlights Piemonte’s organizational capabilities. Moreover, the university Olympics provide a significant boost to the region’s universities, which continue to grow in student numbers, contrary to national trends.”
The Torch will make its final stop in Pollenzo, home to the University of Gastronomic Sciences, on November 29.
Organizational Support and Next Steps
The organization of the tour’s stages relies on the collaboration of universities and local administrations. The Regional School Office and provincial offices have ensured that young students could witness the passage of the Flame of Knowledge. Torchbearers at each stop include athletes and former athletes selected by FederCUSI, CONI Piemonte, and CIP Piemonte.
After visiting key university hubs, the Torch will proceed in December to the municipalities hosting the Games, passing through competition venues:
- December 10: Pinerolo
- December 12: Torre Pellice
- December 17: Pragelato
- December 20: Sestriere
- December 29: Bardonecchia
The Torch will return to Torino on January 13, 2025, for the Opening Ceremony that will officially launch the XXXII FISU World University Games. The Torch’s route will begin at the historic headquarters of CUS Torino on Via Braccini 1 and will follow a city route passing through the city’s main parks and competition venues (Pala Tazzoli and Palavela), using a mixed route that includes the city’s cycling paths.

Tickets are now on sale for the Opening Ceremony (January 13 at the Inalpi Arena), as well as for events such as short track and figure skating at Palavela, and curling and ice hockey at Pala Tazzoli.
