SPACE: THE FINAL FRONTIER

Today the return of Man to the Moon and even the conquest of Mars seem closer to us. Space exploration has indeed entered a new phase: from 2022 NASA programme ‘Artemis’ named after the twin of Apollo, the deity who baptized the pioneering race to the Moon started in the Sixties, will lead to working and living for long periods in non-terrestrial conditions. Space will become a natural extension of the human species beyond the Earth. Hypothesizing therefore a city of the future on the Moon no longer seems science fiction, but an opportunity that will require innovative ideas and proposals, because this time we will go to the Moon to stay in an economically and logistically sustainable way. The teams will be asked to produce visions to address the major, technological but not only, implications that the scenario of an autonomous lunar colony entails:

– The facilities that explorers will need (e.g. a gym for training in absence of gravity, green house systems for the cultivation of edible plants, the construction of launch ramps, etc.)

– The production of energy from locally available sources and the implications in the business economy

– The health support systems necessary for a life on the Moon

– The legal principles governing the activities of the States in the field of space exploration

Different sectors that require different skills, the desire to test oneself and…the ability to dream while looking at the stars!
